Homemade French Onion Soup

I love long holiday weekends. The hubs and I hang out, and almost as important, I can sleep in past 8 am. With three full days of unplanned freedom, we had time to go for a long run, the hubs played video games, and I had time to cook up some fun dishes. With all of the rain and cooler weather, it was soup-making time.

We picked up a baguette from Firehook since Le Pain Quotidien had lost power and locked their doors. With some gruyere cheese toasted on top of slices of baguette, this was lovely. We had enough for soup for two meals and even enough for the hubs to take to work for lunch.

Kabob Palace Lamb Karahi

Heading home Friday night after a long work week and four days of gray skies and rain, we debated what to do for dinner. Instead of stopping by one of our usual Chinese restaurants, I suggested we pick up something from Kabob Palace in Crystal City. Usually we order kabobs, but instead we decided to try out their karahi.

Nice and spicy.
Spiced Chickpeas
The karahi came with two pieces of naan, and we also ordered a side of chickpeas, side of spinach and potatoes and rice.

Lamb Karahi Tacos
With some leftover lamb karahi, I made some really delightful tacos with scallions, cabbage and corn tortillas.

Capital Teas Strawberry Lane

We headed over to Mosaic District in Merrifield to catch a movie and do some window shopping. One of the newer shops is a lovely tea store with some tea pots that caught my eye. They also had a variety of hot and cold teas to sample, which is a fantastic way to catch some impulse shoppers like us. One of the best new finds was a cold tea we tried a sample of that smelled fabulous and was very refreshing.

Double the tea when brewing for a cold tea.
Delicious.

Sunday Pot Roast Dinner

I love cooking something that takes more time and finesse on Sundays. Usually cooking post-work dinners are a hurried affair since we tend to get home after 7 pm. I especially love roasting vegetables and meats, and gravy. Anything with gravy is pretty fantastic. Leftovers are also great for lunches during the work week.
