In the former Harry's Tap Room space in Clarendon, a new south of the border joint has opened up called Fuego Cocina y Tequileria restaurant. The space is still mostly the same on the second floor, and the first floor was opened up more between the bar and table area. After a nice walk where I introduced the joys and mysteries of Roosevelt Island to a friend, we arrived for a late Saturday brunch/lunch.
Queso Fundido with Chorizo and Corn Tortillas $11.00
The tortilla to queso ratio was wildly out of skew. Definitely needed a few more tortillas. The cast iron pan was nice and hot, and the longer the cheese mixture sat in the pan, a nice brown crust developed.
Camarones Tacos $7.00
These come two per order. The accompanying salsas are bright and delicious. The red and green were mild, with the green salsa made with tomatillos. The yellow salsa packs some serious heat, with a mixture of habanero and mustard.
Coctel de Mariscos $12.00
Mixture of shrimp, octopus, tilapia, avocado, salsa and lime.
This version of ceviche was delightful, very fresh and vibrant flavors, with fresh tortilla chips on the side.
Baja Tacos $7.00
Fried tilapia with cabbage and salsa.

Fuego is owned by the Passion Food Restaurant Group, which also owns and operates DC Coast, Ceiba, District Commons, Acadiana, PassionFish and Burger Tap & Shake. Our waiter was very professional and attentive, keeping an eye on us without hovering too much. That's definitely an art form, especially since we had arrived after the brunch rush. The tequila and cocktail list is varied, and you can't go wrong with an order of the queso or ceviche. Prices are a little on the high side, but fits in well with the neighborhood. The aqua frescas are really refreshing too if you're looking for a non-alcoholic bebibas. Fuego is a nice new addition to the Clarendon restaurant neighborhood.
